About two years ago, I was evaluating this program for my daughter, a transfer student from a community college in Northern California. Cost was a dominating factor in my mind. Thoughts that crossed my mind were, "I can probably find a computer for less that would do the job" and "I'm an IT professional and have done my share of troubleshooting, so why should I pay someone else to do that? I can do it for less." Ultimately, my wife and I decided to bypass the opportunity and purchase a computer for our daughter.
Since then, God has led me to serve at APU, and I have had the opportunity to observe, first hand, the benefits provided by the program. Over the course of the school year, I have received half a dozen computer troubleshooting calls from my daughter, all of which were in the evening and none of which had obvious or simple solutions. Additionally, I have made several trips to her apartment to provide technical assistance in person. I am fortunate in that I work on campus, which is within a few blocks of her apartment; if I was still residing in Northern California, such trips would be nearly impossible. If my family had elected to participate in the laptop program, she would have received a laptop of higher quality with a more complete software packageand, most importantly, she would be able to obtain technical assistance on campus.
Included on this website are specifications for the six laptop models offered through the program as well as details regarding the software and accessories included in the laptop package and other specialized information. I urge you to read these materials thoroughly and strongly consider enrolling in the program for the upcoming school year. Do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions!
