Overview of Services

APU Instant Messenger (APUIM)

APU Instant Messenger—also known as APUIM—is a secure instant messaging service available to all students, faculty, and staff. It functions similarly to AOL® Instant Messenger™, MSN Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger, and other popular chat clients; however, it is completely secure and is open only to members of the APU community. Additionally, students can chat with friends and family on other chat services using the APUIM software.

Also known as computer labs, clusters are groups of computers available for student use. Both PC and Apple computers are available, and all computers are equipped with essential software (such as Microsoft Office and Internet Explorer) and high-speed internet access. In addition, some clusters are discipline specific and have additional software and hardware tools. Clusters are located in convenient locations—such as libraries and dormitory study rooms—and many are open 24 hours!

CMS Printing enables students to print their documents and projects on high-quality laser printers located in convenient campus locations, including all three libraries (Marshburn, Darling, and Stamps Theology) and the student union. Students can print to the CMS system from any computer cluster, and prints can be picked up at any CMS station.

The APU Computer Store offers educational discounts on computer systems, software, and accessories for students, faculty, and staff. If the item you seek is not in stock, or if you need assistance in selecting a product, helpful staff are available to ensure that your computing needs are fulfilled.

Cougars' Den

The Cougars' Den is the new university portal—or, in other words, the new üdeupa. It provides access to email, grades, class registration, and other university services.

Media Services

The media services team is dedicated to providing excellent service and support as well as appropriate and effective equipment to classroom facilities and other locations to enhance the teaching and learning environment. Services provided include: media equipment in Smart Classrooms, classroom setups, in-classroom support for media equipment, equipment checkout, and event production.

The Network Services department provides and maintains the on-campus wired and wireless networks. Residence internet—commonly referred to as RezNet—is high-speed internet access available in all on-campus living areas. Wireless access is available in all living areas and campus locations; wired access is available only in Adams, Smith, Trinity, and Engstrom Halls, Shire H Court modular units, University Park apartments, and many campus locations (such as libraries and selected classrooms). We do not provide internet connectivity at Crestview this year, we plan to provide service in Fall 2008 and we are working with Charter Communications to provide a discount service.

The IMT Support Desk is the point of contact for most technology services, including (but not limited to) network services, clusters, telecommunications, media services, and Cougars' Den.

Technology Training

The IMT Training Coordinator offers tutorials and training classes for faculty and staff. All tutorials are available online; classes are available for several Microsoft applications, the Cougars' Den, IFAS, and general technology use.

The telecommunications team coordinates on-campus telephone service for all faculty and staff and students in specific living areas (Adams, Smith, Engstrom, and Trinity Halls and Shire H Court modular units). They also offer discounts on Verizon phones and services for students, faculty, and staff.

University Laptop Program

The university laptop program enables students to lease a laptop designed specifically for academic life at APU. After two years, participants return the laptop to the university and receive a new one. Upon graduation, the student's second laptop is theirs to keep!
